The Bowfish

When the God of Ravaging Tides stood at the rock that would become the Placide Palace and proclaimed the new nation of the North the northerners stood watch, the eels swam in the deep water and from the shallows rose the Bowfish. A bipedal fish who carry harpoons of rock and drift wood, bullwhips of kelp and adornments of shiny shells. They had until then lived on the eastern edge of the Fatlohn valley, on the rivers edge their nests sprawl, covered by wrecked ships they dredge from the water. The bowfish not only lay eggs on the muddy shore but also hibernate there in the coldest months. From the day the God appeared, The Bowfish stood in the shores and let out a droning praise to the God. From that day they kept by the base of the Placid Palace and the shores of fountain well, keeping to themselves, harvesting the clams and crabs and crying out in rapture when the God left the walls of the palace. When Totindell marked itself an enemy the Bowfish attacked any boat fleeing from there, sharing the god’s ire at these people. One the day of the God’s death they all screamed out in pain and since the sinking of the Palace they have become reclusive but hostile to the other Northerns, keeping to their nests again but not allowing any near them without attacking. All attempts to welcome the Bowfish to the Northerns new communal system has been rebuffed, so they are kept well enough alone.
